How to change the title/subtitle of your novel inside of Novelize

To change the title of your novel and add or edit your subtitle, please click on the ‘manage’ button at the top of your page while you’re inside your novel. You can also change the author name and genre here. The author is pre-populated with your name, but you can change if you prefer to write under a pseudonym.

Change Your Goals

How to adjust your goals for your novel with Novelize

To adjust your daily, weekly, or overall goals for your novel, click on ‘goals’ at the top bar anytime. You can adjust your goals, and you can select which of the goals will be reflected in the progress bar on the bottom right of your screen. The bar will turn orange as you meet your goals, serving as a visual progress tracker in addition to the word count.

Outline Your Novel

How to outline your novel with Novelize

Novelize has an outline mode that allows writers to create scene ideas for the entire book before writing a single word for the story. Both outline and write mode can be accessed by clicking the appropriate icons on the top right of the page underneath the save button. It’s important to understand that the outline mode only shows you the scene notes. These scene notes can then be accessed inside of the write mode. Simply click the ‘scene notes’ tabs underneath your scene body for each scene.

Add a Character

How to add a character inside of Novelize

Characters are created inside of your notebook while you’re working on your novel. You can find the notebook by opening the side panel on the left and clicking on ‘notebook’. To add a character, click on the plus icon. Next you can fill in as many details about the character as you’d like to remember. Click ‘create character’ when you are done.

Move Chapters and Scenes

How to move chapters and scenes around inside of Novelize

In order to move chapters and scenes around inside of Novelize, you need to click ‘organize’ on the top of the screen while you’re inside of your novel. From there, it’s easy to drag and drop chapters and scenes wherever you want them to be. It’s best to title your scenes and chapters to makes it easier to figure out which ones belong where.

Create Custom Dates

How to create custom dates inside of Novelize

If you prefer to use custom dates that don’t fit with our standard calendar system, you can do so with Novelize. While you’re inside of your notebook, you have to click the gear icon to the right of your notebook’s title. In the next screen, you can select ‘yes’ for custom dates. When you switch to or from custom dates, it’s important to understand that any dates previously entered will disappear. Therefore, it’s best to decide which type of dates to use for your entire notebook before recording them.

Change Your Notebook

Notebooks can be used for more than one novel, which is very helpful when you’re writing a series. To attach a different notebook to your current novel, open the notebook while you’re inside your novel. Then click the gear icon to the right of the notebook title. The next screen allows you to change your notebook. Simply select the notebook you would like to use and update your changes.

Sign Up for Progress Reports

How to sign up for weekly progress reports from Novelize

Novelize will send you weekly email reminders about your novel’s progress every Friday morning if you sign up for the weekly progress reports. To sign up, click the ‘manage’ button at the top of the page while you’re inside of your novel. Select ‘yes’ to send weekly progress reports at the bottom and update your changes.

Export Your Manuscript

How to export your manuscript from Novelize

When you’re ready to export your novel, Novelize offers a manuscript export option. The manuscript is formatted to meet most manuscript formatting requirements. If you want your address to be pre-populated, you can add it to the account page. The manuscript is a Word document. To export your manuscript, click the ‘export’ tab at the top of the page and select ‘manuscript’. Your novel will start downloading.

Customize Export Options

How to customize your export options with Novelize

If you’d like to customize your export options to reduce formatting headaches after you export, you can do so inside of Novelize. Simply click the ‘export’ button at the top of the page while you’re inside of your novel. The customizable export options include PDF and Word. Variable formatting options include text font size, line spacing, font height, font family, and page size.
